Diaphragm
The diaphragm is the muscle of the reparatory system that controls respiration. It is located under the lungs. When you breathe in, the diaphragm moves downward, which creates more room for the lungs to expand. When you breathe out, it moves back up, which forces the carbon dioxide out of your lungs. The diaphragm can also contract involuntarily, producing hiccups. Hiccups can happen because we eat too quickly, drink carbonated beverages, or we are just having a stressful day.
